Minnesota Glass Artist Robinson Scott Named 2016 Uptown Art Fair Commemorative Artist
The Uptown Association, producer of the Uptown Art Fair, has selected Minnesota glass artist Robinson Scott as the art fair’s 2016 commemorative artist. Scott’s hand blown glass artwork will be featured on the official print of the 53rd Annual Uptown Art Fair, which runs August 5-7, 2016.
Scott, an Anoka, Minn. resident, is a 30-year veteran of the Uptown Art Fair, having first exhibited his work at the fair in 1986. His work received the “Best in Glass” award at the Uptown Art Fair in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2013, and won the “Best of the Best” award in 2002. Scott has also won numerous awards and accolades for his work at art festivals across the country.
“We’re thrilled to have Robinson Scott serve as our 2016 commemorative artist,” said Uptown Association Executive Director Maude Lovelle. “Not only is his glass art stunning, he knows the Uptown Art Fair well after having exhibited here for 30 years. He’s a great representation of the quality of art and artists the Uptown Art Fair has become known for over the last 53 years. We’re excited to unveil the print to the community on May 23.”
Scott started his career in glass in 1974 at a farm studio in Montrose, Minn. In 1987, he moved his family to Transjo, Sweden, for a yearlong apprenticeship. In Sweden, he immersed himself in glass blowing six days a week, learning the technique, style and shape that would set him on his career path. His hand-crafted glass wares include sculptures, bowls, vases and drinking vessels.
“I’m honored to serve as the commemorative artist for this year’s Uptown Art Fair,” said Scott. “I look forward to sharing my passion for glass blowing, Minnesota’s artist community and the art fair itself – with people now through the fair in August.”
During the art fair, Scott will be located at booth #316 near the northwest corner of Lake St. and Hennepin Ave. The 2016 commemorative print will be for sale at the Uptown Information Booth at the top of The Mall and at the Art Fair Merchandise tent located at the corner of Lake and Hennepin.
